The Control Center is one of the features included in this makeover. Overall, the operating system appears to be more current and closer to a mobile OS. ![]() Colors have been brightened, grayscale has been darkened, and numerous icons and menus have been compacted to take up less space (looking at you, Finder). Instead of being circular, app icons are square-shaped. Corners are rounded, whether you’re looking at applications or the dock. Big Sur isn’t a major aesthetic redesign, but there are some minor design changes that make the interface appear a little more iPad-like. The first thing you’ll notice is that everything appears… strange. The operating system is named after the Big Sur coastal area on California’s Central Coast. Thankfully, if you really want to run this OS on your older Mac, you still have options. Big Sur is the most innovative macOS release in recent years, so it's no surprise that Apple has dropped support for quite a few older Macs with the 11.0 update.
